Business

Many of the big names in industry have their headquarters in Gauteng, and the sophisticated infrastructure caters for one of the fastest growing trade sectors in the world.

The figures say it all; from 1995 to 2002 the Gauteng economy grew at an average of 3,3 percent compared to the national average of 2,7 percent.

Gauteng is also the financial services nucleus of South Africa. More than 70 foreign banks have their head offices in Gauteng, not to mention the large numbers of insurance companies, local banks and information technology (IT) companies. Johannesburg is also home to the JSE Limited, the country's stock exchange.

Pretoria is the site of many foreign embassies, and one can hear every language in the world on the jacaranda-lined streets of South Africa's administrative capital.

Gauteng has excellent accommodation from five star hotels to quaint bed and breakfasts. The province is home to four of the country's biggest convention venues, as well as major exhibition facilities, securing its ranking as the country's exhibition capital. It has a number of organisations that focus on attracting business and investors to the province.
